Parish Council Services
The mission of Duston Parish Council is to serve the community by making Duston a better place to live and work.
Facilities and Operations
Duston Parish Council manages two key community facilities: Duston Community Centre and St Luke's Centre. Both venues offer a combination of room hire for the public and space for commercial tenants, directly managed by the Parish Council staff.
Additionally, the Council owns the freehold of Duston Sports Centre and the surrounding field. The centre is operated by Northampton Leisure Trust (Trilogy) on our behalf, and any issues relating to the facility should be reported directly to them.
Events and Initiatives
Throughout the year, Duston Parish Council organizes various events and activities, including Duston Fun Day, Indoor Car Boot Sales, and the annual Christmas Market, aimed at fostering community spirit and engagement.
Community Safety
Addressing concerns about traffic safety, the Council operates four Speed Activated Signs that are regularly moved around the parish to remind motorists of their speed.
We also provide public access to four community defibrillators, located at Chiltern Avenue, Weggs Farm Road, Harlestone Road, and Errington Park, as well as one at St Luke's Centre. In addition, a bleed control cabinet is installed at Duston Community Centre to support emergency response.
Parks and Open Spaces
Duston Parish Council owns several parks and open spaces, including Errington Park, Mendip Park, Grafton Way, Melbourne Lane Open Space, and the Public Open Space adjacent to Telstar Way. The Council also owns and maintains the attenuation pond at Telstar Way. West Northamptonshire Council currently manages these areas on our behalf.
Street Furniture and Public Art
The Parish Council maintains a variety of local amenities, including commemorative benches and eight noticeboards throughout the parish. We also own and maintain several local landmarks, such as the Timken Artwork (located on Main Road/Tollgate Way), the Timken Gates (Main Road), and the Rose Villa Hut (Rose Villa Close). Additionally, the Council oversees the upkeep of the Tree of Hope sculpture, situated along Berrywood Road.
Flag Poles and Bins
Duston Parish Council has three flagpoles located at St Luke's Centre, Duston Library, and Duston Sports Centre.
We also manage a few litter bins around the parish, which are emptied by West Northamptonshire Council. These are located at strategic points, including Main Road/Eastfield Road, Wrenbury Road, Quarry Road Bus Stop, and several open spaces across Duston.
Play and Fitness Areas
The Council is responsible for maintaining play equipment at various locations, including Errington Park, Mendip Park, Grafton Way, and Westbury Close. In addition, we own and maintain outdoor gym equipment at St Luke's Field and Errington Park to encourage fitness and wellbeing within the community.
Planting and Green Spaces
The Council enhances the local environment by maintaining planters and hanging flower baskets along Main Road. We also manage planting areas at the Timken Artwork, the Rose Garden, and by the shops on Main Road opposite Eldean.
War Memorial and Civic Monuments
Although the Parish Council doesn't own the Duston War Memorial, we are legally permitted to maintain it under the War Memorials (Local Authorities' Powers) Act 1923. In addition, the Council maintains other important landmarks, including the Village Sign on Main Road and the Tree of Hope sculpture on Berrywood Road.
